Meet Riccardo.

Servicing the local Canberra region since 2008.

Riccardo’s greatest interest is learning about and understanding how the human body works from a holistic perspective. Riccardo began this journey in the mid-2000s in London, where he completed a Batchelor of Science (Honours) in Acupuncture at the University of Portsmouth and volunteered at Gateway Acupuncture Clinic at Lambeth Hospital, a specialist acupuncture pain clinic offering treatment for patients with chronic long-term conditions in London.

Returning to Australia in the late 2000s, he started his own acupuncture clinic (initially called Acuviva re-named Canberra Acupuncture). Riccardo has been practicing Classical Chinese Acupuncture for over 15 years, primarily following the teachings of Jeffrey C. Yuen, one of the most sought-after teachers of Chinese medicine throughout the world.

In 2022 Riccardo rebranded his business to The Body Lab. While he continues to treat clients using acupuncture, this name change reflects a broadening of interests and training into other, related fields, including functional biomechanics, muscle testing, massage, personal training, movement workshops, movement therapy and cranial sacral therapy. Over the years, Riccardo has been increasingly driven by an understanding of the human body and its movement – particularly gait (walking) – from a bio-mechanical perspective. He has pursued further training in this field, including manual muscle testing through Neurokinetic Therapy, Foot Mobilisation techniques with Dr. Paul Conneely and functional anatomy with Dr Kathy Dooley.

Having pursued further education, Riccardo delved into the realm of biomechanics, studying the subject at the University of Canberra. Additionally, he had the privilege of being mentored by Gary Ward on the Anatomy in Motion (AiM) method for over three years. Riccardo immersed himself in AiM, attending every immersion course in Australia and assuming roles as an AiM instructor for workshops and a practitioner mentor to fellow therapists..

Riccardo’s approach to therapy is informed by a combination of approaches to understanding the body – it’s functions, possibilities as well as limitations, and overall health. By combining various therapies such as acupuncture, cranial-sacral therapy, functional biomechanics and functional anatomy, he can work both internally, addressing the acupuncture meridians, and externally, targeting the bones and muscles through biomechanics and functional anatomy.
