Cranial & Airway Treatment Canberra
A gentle, individual approach to the head, jaw and nasal structures.
Experiencing jaw tension, discomfort around your head or face, or looking for a different approach to cranial treatment?
The head, jaw, neck and surrounding tissues are involved in many everyday functions, including movement, chewing and breathing.
At The Body Lab in Canberra, I offer craniosacral therapy, hands-on cranial treatment and Nasal Release Technique (NRT).
Each approach is different, and treatment is selected according to your history, concerns and individual needs.
The aim is to understand your concerns, explain the available treatment options and help you make an informed decision about your care.
Is Cranial & Airway Treatment Right for You?
People enquire about these treatments for different reasons, including:
Jaw tension: Tightness or discomfort around the jaw and surrounding muscles.
Head and facial tension: A feeling of tightness or discomfort around the head or face.
Neck stiffness: Restricted or uncomfortable movement involving the neck.
Cranial treatment: An interest in gentle, hands-on approaches involving the head and surrounding tissues.
Nasal concerns: Questions about nasal breathing or whether Nasal Release Technique may be appropriate.
Not every symptom involving the head, jaw or nose is caused by a movement restriction.
Persistent nasal obstruction, significant headaches, jaw disorders and other medical concerns may require assessment by a GP, dentist or relevant specialist.
Our Treatment Approaches
Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral therapy is a gentle, hands-on approach involving light contact around the head, spine and surrounding tissues.
Sessions are generally quiet and involve minimal physical pressure.
Some people seek craniosacral therapy for relaxation or to explore whether gentle manual treatment helps them feel more comfortable.
Research into its effectiveness for specific medical conditions remains limited, and it should not replace appropriate medical assessment or treatment.

Cranial & Jaw Treatment
The jaw, neck and surrounding muscles work together during everyday activities such as speaking, chewing and turning your head.
Treatment may involve assessing jaw and neck movement, exploring areas of muscular tension and using appropriate hands-on techniques.
Where relevant, I may also recommend gentle movement exercises.
The approach depends on your individual findings and treatment goals.

Nasal Release Technique (NRT)
Nasal Release Technique is a specialised manual procedure involving the brief inflation of a small balloon within the nasal passage.
It is sometimes promoted as a way to influence structures within the nasal cavity and surrounding areas.
However, there is insufficient high-quality clinical evidence to establish its effectiveness for improving nasal breathing, sinus conditions, cranial alignment or other medical concerns.
The procedure also carries risks, including discomfort, nosebleeds and injury to nasal tissues.
For these reasons, suitability, precautions and informed consent are particularly important.
NRT is not a substitute for assessment by an ENT specialist when there is persistent nasal obstruction or suspected structural disease.
What Happens During Your Appointment?
1. We Discuss Your Concerns
We’ll begin with your symptoms, relevant medical history, previous treatments and what you’re hoping to achieve.
This helps determine whether the treatment you’re considering is appropriate.
2. We Assess Relevant Movement and Tissues
Depending on your concerns, I may examine movement around your jaw, neck and surrounding areas.
For nasal concerns, we’ll discuss relevant symptoms and whether medical assessment is advisable before considering treatment.
3. We Discuss Your Treatment Options
I’ll explain the proposed approach, what it involves, its limitations and any relevant precautions.
You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions before deciding whether to proceed.
4. Treatment and Review
If treatment is appropriate, we’ll proceed with the agreed approach.
We’ll then discuss your response and whether further treatment, self-management or referral is appropriate.
An Individual Approach, Not a One-Size-Fits-All Treatment
At The Body Lab, I don’t assume that every headache, jaw problem or breathing concern has the same explanation.
Different symptoms can have different causes, and not every concern is suitable for manual treatment.
My approach is to listen, assess what is relevant and explain the options available.
The goal is to help you understand the treatment you’re considering and make an informed choice.
