Things People Always Ask
Frequently Asked Questions
❓What kind of therapy do you actually do?
We combine functional biomechanics, manual therapy, cranial work, acupuncture, and movement retraining. Basically, we get joints moving, nervous systems calming, and your body working as a whole again. No guesswork. No cookie-cutter plans. No chakra realignment (unless you’re into that).
❓Do you treat children?
Yes—especially those with developmental quirks, birth trauma, retained reflexes, breathing issues, or who just can’t sit still (hello, mini nervous system in overdrive). We use gentle, non-invasive cranial and movement techniques. No needles for littlies.
❓What’s the first session like?
We call it the Sherlock Holmes Session. You walk, we observe. We poke a few joints. We check posture, pressure points, and maybe even ask about your birth story (yes, that’s relevant). You’ll leave with a clear report, a plan, and usually a pair of wedges.
❓How many sessions will I need?
Most people start with 4–6 sessions over 2-4 months. We reassess after that. If you’re improving, we taper off. If you want long-term support, we space it out. Our goal? Get you independent, not dependent.
❓Do you offer ongoing maintenance?
Yep. Some clients return monthly or quarterly for movement tune-ups. Others only pop back in when something flares up. You’re in charge. No hard sell. No locked-in contracts.
❓What conditions do you help with?
Short answer: anything related to movement, posture, or pain.
Long answer:
Foot, ankle, knee, hip pain
Jaw tension, TMJ dysfunction
Breathing issues, rib and diaphragm restrictions
Postural imbalances, scoliosis
Headaches, migraines
Chronic pain and movement dysfunction
Nervous system overload
Kids with sensory or developmental issues
❓Do you treat jaw and hyoid dysfunction?
Yes! It’s one of our specialties. Jaw tension, swallowing problems, postural imbalances, neck pain—all connected. We assess and treat the jaw, hyoid, tongue, cranial bones, and breathing mechanics together. The result? You’ll breathe, speak, and move better.
❓Do you crack backs?
Nope. We’re not chiropractors. We focus on gentle, precise joint mobilisation, myofascial release, and movement-based resets.
Less snap, more sense.
❓Do you offer acupuncture?
Yes—Classical Chinese Acupuncture grounded in functional anatomy and trauma-informed care. We use it to calm the nervous system, support recovery, reduce inflammation, and treat chronic internal issues. And yes, we make needles as non-scary as possible.
❓What if I’m scared of needles?
No problem. We’ve got plenty of non-needle tools in our kit: cranial therapy, movement work, joint mobilisation, breath retraining. No pressure to do anything you’re not comfortable with.
❓Where are you located?
We’re in Ainslie, Canberra at The Body Lab—a warm, private space where we take our time and treat the whole you. You’ll find us at 21 Chisholm Street. Free parking, friendly vibes.
❓Can I book online?
Absolutely. Click here to book or shoot us a message if you’re unsure which session to start with. We’re happy to help.
❓Can I claim private health insurance rebates?
✅ Covered:acupuncture sessions and personal training if you’re covered for those under your extras. We provide all the receipts and codes your health fund will love.
❌ Not Covered (yet): Movement therapy sessions aren’t rebate-eligible (sad face). Even though they’re often the secret sauce to lasting change, insurers haven’t caught on yet.
We’re hoping insurers catch up soon. Still unsure what you can claim? Just ask—we speak fluent rebate.
❓What should I wear to the session?
Something comfy. Think activewear or anything that lets you move freely. We may need to see your feet, pelvis, spine, or jaw in motion—so bring your curiosity and wear clothes that stretch with you.
